Learning Interactive

Learning Interactive is an education business in Shell Cove, in the Shellharbour area of the Illawarra, that creates interactive whiteboard (IWB) resources and runs professional learning workshops for primary school teachers. It was founded by Taryn Hodgson, a former New South Wales primary teacher with 12 years of classroom experience from Foundation to Year 6, and its resources are written by experienced Australian primary teachers with a strong curriculum focus.

The online Resource Marketplace holds around 80 SMART Notebook resources for literacy and mathematics, sorted by stage from Foundation (Early Stage 1) to Years 5 and 6 (Stage 3). Titles cover the six comprehension strategies (making connections, monitoring, predicting, summarising, visualising and questioning), narrative and persuasive writing, visual literacy, and number topics such as mental computation, doubles, counting back and financial literacy. Most bundles include worksheets, game cards, wall displays and detailed teacher notes. Licences are sold for a single user or for small, medium and large schools, and SMART Notebook software is needed to use them.

The teacher professional learning workshops are two-hour courses for schools on persuasive writing, sentence building (Seven Super Sentences), narrative writing, comprehension strategies, visual literacy, addition and subtraction strategies, and page design and resource creation. Each course is mapped to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and suits graduate, casual and serving primary teachers. Participants take home a printed handout, a PDF copy, five SMART Notebook pages to use in class and a completion letter listing the standards covered.
